Privacy Policy

Last Updated: May 20, 2024  |  Effective Date: May 20, 2024

At GeeFox ("we", "our", or "us"), we are committed to protecting your privacy and securing your code. As a mobile-first developer platform founded in Nigeria, we understand that your repositories, deployment credentials, and project data are highly sensitive. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website, Progressive Web App (PWA), and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using GeeFox, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our Service.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the data necessary to provide, secure, and improve our mobile development platform.

1.1 Account & Identity Data

  • Authentication: When you sign up via GitHub, Google, or email, we receive your name, email address, and a unique identifier from the OAuth provider.
  • Profile Data: Optional profile information you choose to provide, such as your display name or organization.

1.2 Repository & Usage Data

  • Metadata: We store metadata about your connected repositories (e.g., repository name, branch names, commit hashes) to enable mobile Git management.
  • Deployment Logs: Build logs and deployment statuses are temporarily cached to provide real-time updates on your mobile device.
  • Important: We do not store your actual source code on our servers unless you explicitly use our "GeeCloud" secure storage feature, which is end-to-end encrypted.

1.3 Device & Technical Data

  • IP address, browser type, device model, operating system, and mobile network information. This is used strictly for security monitoring (e.g., detecting unusual login locations) and optimizing mobile performance.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data solely for the following purposes:

  • Service Delivery: To authenticate your identity, connect to your Git providers, and trigger deployments.
  • Security & Fraud Prevention: To monitor for unauthorized access, enforce rate limits, and protect our infrastructure.
  • Platform Improvement: To analyze aggregated, anonymized usage patterns to improve mobile UI/UX and fix bugs.
  • Communication: To send you critical service updates, security alerts, or responses to your support requests.

3. Data Security & Encryption

Security is the core of GeeFox. We implement enterprise-grade measures to protect your data:

  • Transit Encryption: All data transmitted between your mobile device and our servers is encrypted using TLS 1.3.
  • OAuth Token Security: We never store your raw GitHub or GitLab passwords. We use secure, scoped OAuth tokens that you can revoke at any time.
  • Access Controls: Strict role-based access control (RBAC) ensures that only authorized personnel can access backend systems, and all access is logged and audited.
  • Nigerian Data Protection: Our infrastructure complies with the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and implements additional safeguards for data processed in or transferred from Nigeria.

4. Third-Party Services

GeeFox integrates with trusted third-party services to function. These services have their own privacy policies:

  • Git Providers: GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket (for repository access).
  • Deployment Targets: Vercel, Netlify, and Cloudflare Pages (we only send deployment triggers, not your code).
  • Analytics: We use privacy-focused, anonymized analytics (e.g., Plausible or Fathom) that do not track personal identifiers or use invasive cookies.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Your Privacy Rights (GDPR, CCPA & NDPR)

Depending on your location, you may have specific rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Deletion: You can delete your GeeFox account at any time from your settings, which will permanently erase your personal data from our active databases.
  • Right to Opt-Out: You can opt out of non-essential communications at any time.
  • Nigerian Residents: Under the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), you have additional rights including the right to data portability and the right to lodge complaints with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

To exercise these rights, please contact us at privacy@geefox.xyz. We will respond within 30 days.

6. Cookies & Local Storage

As a Progressive Web App (PWA), GeeFox uses browser Local Storage and essential cookies to:

  • Maintain your authenticated session securely.
  • Remember your UI preferences (e.g., dark mode).
  • Enable offline drafting of commit messages.

We do not use third-party tracking cookies for advertising purposes.

7. Children's Privacy

Our Service is intended for professional developers and individuals aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we become aware that we have collected such data, we will take immediate steps to delete it.

8. Data Storage Location

As a Nigerian company, we prioritize data sovereignty. Your data is primarily stored on servers located in Lagos, Nigeria, with backups in the EU. All data transfers comply with:

  • Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (NDPR)
  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for European users
  • California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) for California residents

When transferring data internationally, we implement appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and Binding Corporate Rules (BCRs) as required by applicable law.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new policy.
